Crowns
What is a crown?
A crown is a covering that fits over the remaining part of a tooth, helping to strengthen it and making it look like a whole, natural tooth once more. Crowns can be made from various combinations of ceramic, plastic and metal alloys. The choice of material used is made to maximise strength and to simulate the appearance of natural teeth.
Why might I need a crown?
We might suggest fitting a crown:
- As a protective cover for a badly decayed or fractured tooth
- As a permanent restoration for a tooth with large fillings
- To correct minor problems in your natural teeth like spacing and irregular shape
- To replace a tooth that is severely discoloured
What is the benefit for me?
Having a crown fitted can preserve a tooth that would otherwise be lost. It is, with proper dental hygiene and care a long-lasting natural looking restorative treatment.
